We are retired educators with Anne having taught for 33 years in elementary school and with special needs students, as well as a ten year stint of university teaching. Bob taught for 30 years in junior high and high school, mostly in English and public speaking and debate.
Through the years we’ve had plenty of hobbies including backpacking, sled dog racing, and hill climbing and autocross. Golf has always been an interest, but we didn’t give it serious attention until the 1990s.
When we retired in 2000 we took our first international trip to Scotland for the golf, the castles, and the scotch whisky (not necessarily in that order). Since that first trip we’ve gone back to Scotland a total of 15 times, visited Ireland four times, and been to England three times and Wales twice.
Writing and photography are a natural extension of our activities, and over the years I’ve written in a variety of formats. I’ve had articles published on backpacking, sled dog racing, golf and travel. I wrote or co-wrote five books and numerous articles on competitive forensics and public speaking. Our golf and travel to the British Isles has led to three published guide books and a variety of articles for Historic Scotland Magazine and Highlander Magazine.
Our current projects include a travel narrative about ten years’ travel in the British Isles and a book on out-of-the-way golf courses in Oregon.
And, have you personally experienced the attractions, eaten at the pubs and stayed in the B&Bs?
Yes, for all practical purposes. There are a few golf courses we only walked without playing because of competitions or bad weather. There are a few also that we only played nine because of weather.
We’ve eaten or had a drink at all of the eateries we suggest and we’ve visited all the attractions we write about.
A couple of the B&Bs come from friends whom we travel with and trust, but aside from those couple we stayed at all the rest.
We give phone and web addresses in our books for all the courses and B&Bs.
We also provide links to courses on our Resources page, which also link to our web site.
Absolutely not!
That would be counter to our philosophy of independent travel. We have, however, helped design trips for friends or friends of friends on a consulting basis. If you are interested and have purchased one or more of our books, contact us via the provided email link.
You can purchase our books from this web site, from Amazon.com, or from selected bookstores or Celtic shops in the Portland area.
No, we are independent publishers of our own materials.
Sorry, no.
